Homemade Maple Syrup

If you are not pouring pure maple syrup over your breakfast then you are probably consuming spoonfuls of high fructose corn syrup and artificial maple flavor.  Pure maple syrup can be very expensive and in some areas hard to find. To avoid the high price at the store and not eat chemically sweetened syrup I make my own in a few minutes.

To achieve the taste of real maple syrup using natural ingredients follow this homemade recipe!

You will need:

Boiling pot
Measuring cup
1 cup water
1/2 cup water
1/2 cup Stevia (or sugar)
1/2 brown sugar (or light brown)
Maple syrup extract (or Earth Balance butter)
Optional: Vanilla extract, cinnamon

Here is how:

1. Pour 1 cup water in pot on high heat until it comes to a boil then lower heat to let simmer
2. Add 1/2 cup Stevia and 1/2 cup brown sugar (for an even sweeter taste add more sugar)
3. Add a few drops of maple extract. The number of drops will vary pending on your taste. I suggest adding a few drops at first then add a more if desired.  This way you avoid wasting food and starting over.
4. Optional: You can add other natural flavors such as vanilla extract or cinnamon.

Continue to stir the mixture simmer while it simmers for 1-2 minutes.

Serve hot or lot cool and store in the refrigerator in a glass jar. Use a spoon to serve over waffles, french toast or pancakes.

The dollar store sells plastic containers with a nozzle that look like restaurant ketchup bottles for easy usage.

Corn syrup is very thick and sticky. Since this mixture does not contain corn syrup, the consistency is watery instead of a thick syrup. I prefer this consistency because it moistens the waffles or french toast. In the past, I would use extra syrup to moisten my breakfast, but with this homemade recipe you can use less.

This recipe only takes a few minutes, clean up is easy, cost pennies, no corn syrup, and made with real maple extract!

This recipe is perfect to be poured over my homemade waffles!
